Romance at a Glance Reviews Pink Slip by Katrina Jackson

AKA our first Throuple!!

You guys, it finally happened, our throuple :))))))) If you’ve been listening to the podcast, you know we’ve been hoping for a throuple for a long time (shout out to our obsession with Butch/Vishous/Marissa becoming one).

This was a super sexy spy romance and while Shani had some problems with the book, Bridget was ALL IN. It must be mentioned that romantic suspense/spy romance is one of Bridget’s favorite genres. Is it practical to bang on a mission? Absolutely not, does she care? No, she certainly does not (though Shani does!)

Some major points we discussed:

  • Our expectations of indie authors vs published authors

  • Whether the spy portion of the book needs to be believable & does it matter that they have sex in crazy dangerous times.

  • THROUPLE!

  • The relationships between each of the three main characters independently and together.

  • Excellent dialogue and sexual tension.

  • The longing and wanting and desires - Yowza

  • Bridget's love of this series!

  • Chante! And her friendship with Kenny (and sad relationship with Asif)

  • Withholding sex as a punishment.

  • The β€œBrat” in a kink dynamic

On Romance at a Glance, we discuss and review all genres of romance novels, as well as get into the nitty-gritty of real-life romance, relationships, and sex... while cracking each other up. Expect some spontaneous singing, funny anecdotes, honest reviews, and naughty language.

Quick Guide Review of the Book and Notes

Book Title: Pink Slip

Author: Katrina Jackson

Audio Narrator: NA

Part of a Series: Yes - Book 1 of the Spies Who Loved Her

Genre: Contemporary Romance & Action Romance

Cover Art:

Shani: There needs to be a drop shadow under pink slip so you can see it better on kindle. A step up in cover art. She looks modern and a good dress and sets the tone for this to be a fun read.

Bridget:  I love the picture of the model on the cover. She’s so trendy and gorgeous and I immediately got the fun, sexy vibe of the book. I wish the fonts were easier to read.

Synopsis: Kierra is a poor poet who just finished her master’s degree. She takes an assistant job to pay her rent while writing, never realizing her new bosses, who are hot as fuck are spies.

After spending three years lusting after Lane and Monica, and wearing the most provocative outfits possible, she decides to leave. Sad about what she thinks she can never have Kierra is whisked away to Serbia for an operation that leads to them all confronting their desires.

Heroine Rating: Kierra

Shani: πŸ‘πŸ‘ I was annoyed at her stomping around and tantrums, especially after her initial character setup.

Bridget: πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘ I loved her. So lusty and funny and tempting and free with her sexual desires. She was a little childish at times with her demands of them and tantrums, but it worked for them, so who am I to judge!

Heroine Rating: Monica

Shani: πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘ I loved how Monica was no-nonsense and strong, but that leads me to believe she would never have let this story unfold the way it did.

Bridget: πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘ So happy she was the dom of the group. I really liked the way that she controlled them and kept them in check, but also that Kierra and Lane were able to get under her skin. Also her fucking Lane with the strap? HOT.

Hero Rating: Lane

Shani: πŸ†πŸ†πŸ† I love the way he fights with Monica, their banter. He gives her respect and I love the way he interacts with her.

Bridget: πŸ†πŸ†πŸ†πŸ† The charm! Be still my muthafucking heart. Also his absolute devotion to Monica and acceptance of her as the leader of their duo, and how much he loves how Kierra gets under Monica’s skin.

Favorite Lines in the Book:

Favorite Review:

Shani’s from Goodreads:

- There were a few obvious typos and grammatical errors, but I can overlook that because it's an indie author

- The sex scenes weren't as amazing as other reviews suggest since most of them were pretty fade to black (they'd initiate something and then the chapter would end etc.), but they weren't horribly written like other erotica I've read. (view spoiler)

- I LOVED the characters so much!!!!!

- I wish the relationship between the f/f/m was more established and they had an open communication about how they were going to be with each other. They kind of just jump into having sex and then at the end it's left pretty open. However, it's still obvious they all love each other

- Lane's sexuality could've been more obvious because it just says they have "men or women" in their beds and it's not elaborated whether he was attracted to the men or not

Bridget’s from Goodreads:

Leigh Kramer rated it 4 stars

Could any of this actually happen? Not likely. Did I enjoy it anyway? Absolutely! Such a fun, sexy read about polyamorous spies and the admin they love.

Worth the Read?

Shani: 2 stars. Wouldn’t recommend it, but if she wrote a prequel about Lane and Monica I’d read that.

Bridget: 4 stars Yes! I also read the other books in the series and they are super fun, super sexy, and super fast reads. Check em out!
