Romance at a Glance Reviews Heat Stroke by Tessa Bailey

AKA Bridget's favorite book in season 3! Paperback | $2.99 trilogy bundle

You guys this book is everything we wanted a summer quickie to be! Fun, sexy, charming, complex yet quick to read, and with hot, hot sex scenes.

Shani took the week off (no audiobook on this one), so we had a wonderful guest host, Ann! Ann is Bridget’s older sister and was the first person to give her a romance novel. Since then they have read aloud dozens of novels on cross-country road trips and loved to squeal over the feels and the sex scenes alike. Enjoy their hilarious sisterly banter and ability to finish each other’s sentences as we talk about this excellent book!

Some major points we discussed:

  • The TRAIN SCENE!

  • Their chemistry

  • Marcus’ earnestness and general amazing personality

  • The sex scenes!

  • A bit of dom/sub vibes

  • Marcus’ juice shop and Jaime helping him making it happen and set it up

  • Marcus’ journey of realizing he is gay, coming out to Jaime, and then to the rest of the people in his life.

On Romance at a Glance, we discuss and review all genres of romance novels, as well as get into the nitty-gritty of real-life romance, relationships, and sex... while cracking each other up. Expect some spontaneous singing, funny anecdotes, honest reviews, and naughty language.

Quick Guide Review of the Book and Notes

Book Title: Heat Stroke

Author: Tessa Bailey

Audio Narrator: NA

Part of a Series: The Beach Kingdom Bundle - Book #2

Genre: Contemporary Romance - Queer Romance

Cover Art:

Ann: I had to look it up :) the Kindle bundle "beach kingdom" made it look like a fun summer read. I enjoy it because this was that!

Bridget: Gave me all the vibes I needed. Clenched jaw, laying in the swirling ocean surf, blue skies.

Synopsis: They can't be together. They won't stay apart.

Marcus “Diesel” O’Shaughnessy is a brash, oversized CrossFit enthusiast with a naked lady tattooed on his rippling forearm. Jamie Prince is a private school teacher with an extremely low tolerance for bull. The two men have zero in common. Well, except for three things.

They’re both moonlighting as lifeguards for the summer.

No matter how hard they try, they cannot stay away from each other.

And both of them have secrets they’re determined to keep.

But what happens in the shadows of the Long Beach boardwalk can only remain hidden for so long, before the July sunshine reveals the hot, unrelenting connection they never expected, forcing Marcus and Jamie to decide if they’re simply caught up in a temporary heat stroke or if they’ve found something worth rescuing...

Hero Rating: Jaime

Ann: 🍆🍆🍆🍆  Jamie is an undercover McSteamy, buttoned-up but a little freaky in the sheets. I like how well Tessa writes his intelligence/interests into his thoughts.

Bridget: 🍆🍆🍆🍆🍆 Jaime is a 5 star guy all around. I love how he protects his own heart but loves Marcus enough to be patient for him. Also, he’s funny and knows he’s brilliant.

Hero Rating: Marcus

Ann: 🍆🍆🍆🍆 Love that Tessa describes Marcus physically getting taller/smaller based on Jamie's comments. He’s always talking about Ghosts taking other people's things. Jamie was complicated and wonderful and…a little bruised up over the past, but that mostly made Marcus want to hug him. Like, all the time. Dick cages 😂

Bridget: 🍆🍆🍆🍆🍆 Marcus is the sweetest, biggest teddy bear in the whole world and I loved him so much. He just worships Jaime and I thought his journey of realizing he is gay and coming out was just lovely.

McDreamy to Mc Steamy:

Ann: McDreamy who likes steam

Bridget: McSteamy! McDreamy! McAdorbs

Classy to Nasty:

Vanilla but primal and getting after it. Kinky dom/sub vibes. Definitely leaned toward kinky. Train ride. Roleplaying. Dominance. And also super sweet and romantic. Lots of eye contact.

Favorite Review:

Ann’s from Goodreads:

Tracy C rated it it was amazing 5 stars

1 million stars!!! Tessa Bailey is a favorite of mine, but she blew it out of the water with her second M/M. Marcus and Jamie were everything! Marcus was freaking adorable in his confusion. Jamie just about broke my heart because he was so conflicted. The aching and yearning they have for each other is front and center in the story. There is so much heart and humor and feeling in this book, the characters practically leap off the page. And FYI...Tessa Bailey can write a sex scene like no other. I had heat stroke after reading this book!

Bridget’s from Goodreads:

Aisling Zena rated it it5 stars

Someone give this woman an award! Heck, all the awards! Best chemistry, best tension build up, definitely best sex and dirty talk scenes and best three dimensional characters.

Worth the Read?

Ann: YES!

Bridget: 1000 times yes. Get this book. Read it. The other 3 books about Jaime’s brothers are cute too :)
